The characters of the backyardigans include a precocious penguin named Pablo, a laid-back moose named Tyrone, a high-spirited ladybug named Uniqua, and their friends. Their friends include Tasha the hippo and Austin the kangaroo. Every day they meet in their adjoining backyards to explore wherever their imaginations take them. The backyardigans sing and dance their way through every adventure.
Our child’s first interest in television consisted of only the backyardigans. She was only 3 ½ months of age when she became greatly entertained by these silly and fun characters. We were amazed at her reaction to their adventures, she would laugh and talk to the screen as though they were right there playing with her. Since then, the backyardigans has been our family favorite! Once you watch an episode, you fall in love with these amusing creatures!
There is only one problem with the backyardigans; your child will quickly get hooked to them. With all the controversy of children watching too much television, make sure you keep their TV time limited. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that children should not watch more than 2 hours a day of quality programming. In fact, they prefer for children under the age of 2 to not watch any at all. On the flip side, several pediatrics argue that baby-oriented TV and DVD programs offer educational benefits.
