The Convertible Crib is a crib for all ages.

The most extraordinary children's furniture
Convertible cribs are easily transformed from a crib to a toddler bed, twin bed, full-sized bed or a day bed. The easy transitions of convertible beds are cost saving as they allow you to alter your baby’s crib after he or she has outgrown it. We have found some great convertible cribs you can purchase for your family.

There is a vast array of convertible cribs on today’s market making it one of the most challenging items to select. When finding the right one for your child, there are
several factors to consider. First, you will want a convertible crib that is durable and safe for your child. Next, you want to find the convertible crib that best matches your budget and style.

Infants should always sleep in a convertible crib that meets the current Federal and American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) standards. According to consumer reports, it is best for you to buy a new convertible crib and to avoid the old hand me downs. Older convertible cribs may not meet current safety standards or may be in disrepair. In fact, 12 states have laws banning the use of unsafe used cribs in their child care facilities. If you have to use an older model, avoid convertible cribs manufactured before the year of 2000. Many older cribs, including the one that was used for you or your younger children, do not meet all current safety standards and run the risk of causing harm to your child. Organic baby cribs are an alternative for parents who are looking for a crib that is built without any trace of chemicals which could pose a health hazard to babies.

Durability is also an important factor when choosing the right convertible crib for your child. According to Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA), each year approximately 50 babies suffocate or strangle themselves when they become trapped between broken crib parts or are in cribs with older, unsafe designs.  Many older cribs do not meet current stringent safety standards. These guidelines should be followed to ensure your child is safe in their convertible crib:
  • The crib mattress should fit snugly with no more than two fingers width (one-inch) between the edge of the mattress and the crib side. Otherwise, the baby can get trapped between the mattress and the side of the crib.
  • No pillow-like bumpers.
  • Look for the JPMA Certification Seal.
  • Make sure there are no missing, loose, broken, or improperly installed screws, brackets or other hardware on the crib or the mattress support.
  • Crib slats or spindles should be spaced no more than 2 3/8” apart, and none should be loose or missing.
