Maternity Wear for the fashionable mom.

Mothers Work, Inc.
Finding the right maternity wear can be a bit stressful, especially for those of us who try to stretch our regular clothes to the limit.  Here are a few tips on how to get your wardrobe ready for the maternity months.

It is important to sort out all of the “small” items you have in your

closet.  There will be times you go to your closet to find maternity wear and you look at that little black dress you love so much.  After popping a few stitches to squeeze it over your new body, you are now depressed because you feel sooo big.  Save yourself from experiencing your pregnancy blues by putting it away for a while.  During the first few months of pregnancy you will be able to fit into most of your clothes, but eventually you will use the rubber band method on your jeans and then have to say good-bye.  As soon as the rubber band around your jeans starts popping people in the eye from being stretched too far, clean out the closet.  Get rid of all of the items you will not wear.  Don’t hold onto things you think you will wear after the baby, put them away.  Most likely you will not wear them until the next year anyway.

Maternity wear can include your old clothes, but be careful when picking out what to keep.  You want shirts that are long, ones that will still cover the belly when you get bigger and bigger.  Pants, unless they are elastic, just put them away.  Sweat pants and sweat shirts are great maternity wear, not to mention the most comfortable.

Buying maternity wear will tear a deep hole in your wallet.  Those maternity boutiques have us wrapped around their fingers as soon as we step inside.  What to do – stay away, far away!  You do not need to go into a high fashioned maternity store.  Although you can find the same shirt half the price at Walmart, for some reason it still looks better on the boutique’s manikin.  When buying maternity wear, be cautious of the prices, most of the time the maternity wear is not worth it.

When purchasing maternity wear, ask your friends where they found the most bargains.  Places like Old Navy and JC Penny have great deals.  One of the best money saving tips is to buy maternity wear that you will want to wear after the baby, clothes that will stay with you until the baby weight comes off.

To save even more money on lounge clothes, raid your husband’s closet!!  Over-sized t-shirts, sweat pants and shorts are very comfy.  Also, ask your friends if they have any maternity wear hand-me-downs.  After all, once the tubes are tied, they have nothing else to do with them, right? Or you and a friend can pass the clothes back and forth.  My sister and I do that, twice the amount of clothes for your budget.
