NEWBORN ESSENTIALS CHECKLIST
Clothing:
6-8 Onesies (Side Snap for Cord Care; Once it falls off you will want diaper onesies, the ones that snap at the crotch)
5-7 Sleepers/night gowns
4 Swaddlers
Hat or baby cap (hospital usually provides this)
6 pairs of socks/booties
1-2 pairs of scratch mittens, to keep baby from scratching his face
2-3 comfortable daytime outfits
Sweater or jacket
Bunting bag or snow suit for winter baby
Blankets:
One large blanket for baby to use as a mat to lay or play one
Smaller blanket to cover baby to protect from outside weather
4 burp cloths or receiving blankets
Diapers:
6 dozen disposable newborn diapers, more is better!!
OR
1 to 2 dozen reusable cloth diapers (make sure you buy
covers to go with them)
Diaper pail
Vaseline or diapering cream
Feeding:
Bottle Feeding only:
4 newborn bottles with nipples (4 ounce)
4 larger bottles with nipples (8 ounce)
Bottle sterilizer
Bottle and nipple brush
Formula
Breastfeeding only:
Breast pump
Milk storage containers
Nursing pillow (Boppy is great)
Nursing bra
Breast pads and nipple cream
Bath time:
Infant tub
6 to 8 washcloths
Baby soap/shampoo
Soft bristled hair brush
Hooded towel
* lotion and powder is not needed for newborns
Bedtime:
4 Swaddlers
4 sleep sacks or sleepers of choice
Mobile or aquarium (works wonders!)
Sleep positioner, if needed
