Organic baby food helps your child grow strong and healthy.

Today, many parents are turning to organic baby food to keep their children’s diets healthier and free of such harmful substances as pesticides, hormones, antibiotics and other toxins.  In fact, organic baby food sales increased 21.6 percent from 2005 to 2006. We have found some great organic baby food options for you and your family.

The popular demand for organic baby food never decreases; here are just a few reasons why:

A study conducted by the Environmental Working Group tested 8 different non-organic baby foods and found 16 different pesticide residues.

Pesticides have never been proven safe for children; in fact, most pesticide testing has only been conducted in adults and animals.

Think about it, the pesticides found in non-organic baby food is used to kill insects.  These same pesticides put your child at a higher risk of developing cancer, neurological problems, developmental problems and reproductive problems.

According to Consumer Reports, it is not too late to start your child on organic baby foods.  A study reported by the Environmental Protection Agency proves that once your child switches to organic

foods, the pesticide levels decrease to undetectable levels in just five days.  It is going to take a while to study the potential effects pesticides pose to your child’s health.  If you think about how long it took scientists to prove the health hazards of lead, it will most likely take just as long.  So, if you are uncertain about the pesticides your child is consuming, buy organic baby food.  There is no harm to your child in doing so.

The one problem with organic baby food is its cost.  It generally cost $.30 more.  Many researchers say that there shouldn’t be a price on your baby’s health, but that is easier said than done for a lot of families.

If you are on a tighter budget, you can purchase baby food that contains low pesticide levels.  These foods are asparagus, avocados, bananas, broccoli, cauliflower, sweet corn, kiwi, mangos, onions, papaya, pineapples and sweet peas.  On the flip side, the highest levels of pesticides are found in apples, bell peppers, celery, cherries, imported grapes, nectarines, peaches, pears, potatoes, red raspberries, spinach and strawberries.

When buying organic baby food, make sure you look for foods labeled “certified organic” or “certified organically grown” to ensure their credibility.  Baby foods that are organically certified must meet strict regulations before labeled.
