A swaddle blanket is perfect for bringing your baby back to his natural-tight position.
Swaddling is the old age advice that has stuck around to this day. People believe that tightly wrapping him like a burrito will calm your crying or colicky baby. Most babies’ accept this form of “gift wrapping” and fall soundly asleep. With a swaddle blanket, the magic of swaddling is made easy.
As soon as your baby is born, most hospitals swaddle your baby for you. Then after, it is up to you to keep your baby tightly wrapped. Most likely your nurse will show you how to swaddle your baby with a swaddle blanket or a hospital blanket. With a swaddle blanket, your baby will fall in a deep sleep for a longer period of time. Swaddling is easy, just follow these few steps:
- Lay your swaddle blanket on a flat surface and fold down the top right corner (about 5 to 6 inches)
- Place your baby on his back with his head on the fold of the swaddle blanket.
- Pull the corner near your baby’s left hand across his body and tuck the leading edge under his back on the right side under the arm.
- Pull the bottom corner up and under your baby’s chin.
- Bring the loose corner over your baby’s right arm and tuck it under the back on his left side.
Swaddle blankets come in several different sizes, colors and designs. With the array of choices, you can find the swaddle blanket that best suits your style and taste. Some swaddle blankets come with velcro making it easier for you to whip your child into a burrito. Once your child lets you know that they no longer want to be swaddled, you can use your swaddle blanket as a play mat or cover for your child.
