You will find that your child will develop several teething symptoms. One teething symptom is crankiness. Children become cranky because their gums are sore, swollen and tender. You will see that this teething symptom will occur anywhere from 3 to 5 days after the tooth appears.
Another common teething symptom is drooling. You will think you left the “drool faucet” on inside your baby’s mouth. This teething symptom can causes rashes since drool and sensitive skin do not mix well. You can expect a red, raised, irritating rash around your baby’s lip and chin.
Other common teething symptoms include chewing on just about everything in site, fever,
diarrhea, night waking, and refusing to eat. If your child has a fever, it should be low-grade (100.4° to 102°). All of these teething symptoms are sure to break your heart, but there are a few things that can help ease their pain.
To help your child get through these heart wrenching symptoms, acetaminophen can be given in accordance to your child’s age. Also, teething gels are a great way to numb the area. However, be careful when using them; they taste horrible and excessive use can cause your baby to swallow too much. One of the best, safe and fast acting remedies available is teething tablets. You can also try anything cold to help ease teething symptoms. From frozen teething rings to frozen washcloths, cold items give them relief. If your child has a rash, keep it clean and use a cream (lanolin works great) on the affected area.
